The Story Behind our Backpacks

Kula was founded in the summer of 2019, right here in the UK. Our mission has always been simple: to create eco-friendly accessories using sustainably sourced materials.

Our first collection of backpacks featured an innovative reinforced paper material – a design that was eco-conscious but left room for improvement. We wanted to take things further – to design something that not only reflected our commitment to the planet but also had a more rugged and versatile feel. 

In 2024, a trip to Japan inspired us to rethink our approach. We realised that true sustainability isn’t just about the materials or manufacturing – it’s also about creating products that people don’t need or want to replace. By designing with better, more durable materials and adding functionality, we could make something that people value and use for longer.

Our new collection introduces a multifunctional backpack that adapts to your day. Featuring a detachable front pocket that transforms into a sleek crossbody bag – perfect for those times when you only need the essentials. We designed this with versatility in mind, making sure it's stylish enough for the office, yet rugged enough for a hike or an adventure in a new city.

This design means a lot to us. We wanted to create something we’re genuinely proud of – a backpack that stands the test of time, both in quality and style. The 2-in-1 design is all about adaptability, giving you a bag that works with whatever the day throws at you. We believe it’s the first of its kind, and we hope you love it as much as we do.
